We love the Danish artist/designer Lisa Grue's delicate and unique embroidery kit. The kit contains everything you need to complete a beautiful, large-scale modern tapestry and is available in three color variations and three designs.
Lisa will debut at the the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York from May 19-22, 2012 – we wish her all the best there.
About the kit: The theme of the embroidery motifs is "Memento Mori" to remind people of their morality. Lisa's motivation for selecting this theme is her reaction to a stressful lifestyle. She thinks that we need to slow down and be present in our lives, and by doing embroidery, you are encouraged to slow down. Embroidery requires concentration – it is a meditative hobby – a perfect stress relief tool.
The "My Embroidery Kit" by Lisa Grue is an easy-level embroidery kit containing all of the essentials that one will need in order to learn how to hand embroider with a simple technique.
The Munich-based photographer Christine Brandl has contributed to Stella no.4, The Dark Issue, with an interpretation of black granite for the article 'Best In Black'. See the rest of the shoot here and discover more of Christine's amazing work here.
We had a very nice evening celebrating Stella no.4, The Dark Issue, at Mikkeller Bar. The bar served a Dark Stella Stout special to mark the occasion. Thanks for dropping by to celebrate. And a very warm thanks to Mikkeller for hosting!
Our fourth issue of Stella magazine, The Dark Issue, is out on the 26th of March. You might think that ‘darkness’ is quite a sombre theme for the spring issue of Stella Magazine, but the stories are not about death, evil, metal and goth as one might expect. Instead we have focused on the light side of darkness – different shades of grey where melancholy resides – a place from which a lot of grand art has originated. In the issue you will find an interview with the Danish artist Maria Rubinke, an article about music from Iceland and a delicious recipe for a the darkest chocolate cake, plus lots of other good stuff.
Check out these illustrations by the talented Grace Lee! We are very lucky to have an illustration by her in the upcoming issue of Stella magazine out in March.
Grace is a freelance illustrator from Sydney, Australia. Her illustrations were recently selected for the Arigato Project Panel Exhibition as part of Tokyo Designers Week 2011. Previous works include a Moleskine diary for Notemaker, artwork for Bespoke Letterpress and contributions to Papier Mache and Donna Hay magazines.
In her ‘Double Exposure’ series Pakayla Biehn transforms double exposure photographs into otherworldly dreams. The photographs were taken by a handful of collaborators and then recreated as oil paintings by Biehn.
